School Newsletter

Dear Parents,

We were really lucky today to be visited by a team of top sports people on a charity bike ride to Bruges, on behalf of Sports Aid. More information about the athletes and how to donate can be found at www.sportsaid.org.uk

Danny Crates , a parent of children here at Great Totham, is one of the team of Olympians riding to Bruges and he kindly organised a stop at the school on the way. The charity, whose patron is the Duchess of Cambridge, raises money to help young, unfunded athletes in their ambition to become Britain's next generation of Olympian, Paralympian and world champions. The children were so excited to wave them on and offer encouragement. We all wish them well on their journey. We will put some photos on our website early next week.

On 14th November 2018 'The 2 Johns', well-known and respectedex-policemen from the Maldon area, are coming into school to work with our children and staff on the topic of E-safety. We've also bought into the parent session in the evening as we recognise how important your role is in helping your children to safe online and want you to be as informed as possible. We have had staff members attend their sessions as parents and, having gone thinking they were 'in the know', were shocked and scared at just what is going on in our children's online lives. We wanted to give you as much notice as possible to ensure that you are able to attend; we really can't stress how important this is for all children, not just the older ones.

On Thursday 24th May our Year 6 Rounders team competed against other local primary schools at a tournament hosted by Plume School. The team had been practising at lunch times under the direction of Mr Catton, this was evident from their set positions whilst fielding and some super batting, with one ball even being hit out into the road!

We won the competition by winning every match and are now through to the county finals in Southend next week.

Great Totham Church are asking for donations of any pre loved toys, books and games for their village fete. Please contact Mrs Campbell at the church for more information.
